Thomas is a general gastroenterologist and hepatologist with an interest in upper and lower GI endoscopy, bowel screening, high-resolution manometry and 24-hour pH-impedance monitoring.

Thomas graduated from medical school in Belgium (magna cum laude) in 2014 and went on to achieve a PhD at the renowned Amsterdam UMC in the field of gastroenterology, focussed on gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and oesophageal motility. He completed his specialist training in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and underwent a fellowship in Auckland City Hospital. Following his move to New Zealand he worked as a consultant gastroenterologist in Hawke’s Bay before moving to Christchurch.

Thomas manages a wide variety of patients including patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic liver disease, and coeliac disease. He has been granted recognition by the NZCCRTGE (New Zealand Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) for his training and experience in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy.
