Professional Profile

Ingo graduated from Justus-Liebig-University Giessen Medical School, Germany, in 1996, having spent part of his medical education at the Royal Infirmary Aberdeen, Scotland, and at the University of California at Los Angeles, USA. He completed general surgical training in Cologne, Germany, gaining his specialist accreditation (Facharzt) in 2002. From there he further specialised in colorectal and visceral surgery in Wuppertal and Cologne, completing the European Board Exam of Colorectal Surgery in 2005. He gained additional accreditation in proctology 2006 and in visceral surgery 2007. Ingo then worked as a consultant specialist in colorectal surgery in Germany, alongside various European colorectal specialists. He has contributed to several national conferences on colorectal disorders. Ingo has a strong commitment to patient-centred practice and has been very active in programmes for public education and awareness about colorectal problems.

Ingo is working full-time at Intus. Ingo is a "people person" who enjoys working with his patients to help them understand their condition and to explore all options with them, including surgical procedures if indicated.

His special interests include:

  • Laparoscopic colorectal surgery
  • Faecal incontinence (e.g. sacral nerve modulation)
  • Pelvic floor disorders
  • Anorectal disorders including complex fistula-in-ano

Personal profile

Ingo, his wife Claudia and their family emigrated from Cologne, Germany, at the end of 2010. Claudia is a nutrition scientist. She studied a year of her Masters in Public Health at the University of Auckland in 1998 and holds a PhD in Public Health.  Ingo and Claudia have had a long affiliation with New Zealand and are looking forward to establishing their lives here.
